摘要

PURPOSE:To enhance the still life of a magnetic tape, to improve a drop in the output of the magnetic tape and to sharply improve the CSS characteristic of a magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic recording medium, a ferromagnetic metal thin film 2 is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate 1, a first filmlike or granular carbon film 4 is formed on it by a vacuum film-formation method and a second amorphous and hard carbon film 5 is formed by a plasma CVD method or the like. Especially thanks to the effect of the first filmlike or granular carbon film 4 which has been formed between the ferromagnetic metal thin film 2 and the second amorphous and hard carbon film 5, the second amorphous and hard carbon film 5 whose bonding strength is high and which does not take a metal into the film can be formed.
