An apparatus (20) for drawing a specimen of a body fluid, such as urine from a sample tube (22). The specimen is drawn through a reusable slide assembly (322) for examination. The slide assembly (322) includes a glass enclosure (324) shaped to provide a viewing chamber (320) for use with a microscope. A sample tube (22) with a special plug (30), an elongated hollow probe (70), and a solids collector chamber (28) with which a uniform amount of body liquid is provided for the specimen.
