DYE FOR THERMAL TRANSFER RECORDING, INK COMPOSITION FOR THERMAL TRANSFER RECORDING AND TRANSFER SHEET

PURPOSE:To prepare an ink compsn. having both of a high sublimation speed and image stability after transfer by dissolving or dispersing a magenta dye represented by a specific general formula and a binder resin in an org. solvent or water. CONSTITUTION:A dye for thermal transfer recording represented by formula I or II (wherein R is a 1-4C alkyl group, a 1-4C alkoxy group or a hydroxyl group) is synthesized by reacting anthraquinone and hydroxypyridine by a known method. The dye represented by the formula I or II is dissolved or dispersed in an org. solvent and/or water along with a binder resin to prepare an ink compsn. for thermal transfer recording. This ink compsn. is applied to a base sheet such as tissue paper or a plastic film and dried to form a dye support layer to produce a transfer sheet. This transfer sheet is superposed on a material to be recorded and both of them are heated and pressed from the rear of the sheet by a thermal recording head to transfer the dye on the sheet to the material to be recorded.
