PURPOSE:To provide a light waveguide for direct coupling having a high coupling efficiency through a simple process. CONSTITUTION:A light waveguide member is composed of a buffer layer 10 and light waveguide layer 11, which are installed on a base board 9, and that part of this member near the end face where light is incident, is protruded 10b, 11b from the surface of the board. It is so arranged that the semiconductor laser or optical fiber is easily coupled with the light waveguide path in good performance by the direct coiupling method owing to the light incident part (10a, 11a) provided projectingly for this purpose at the end face of the light waveguide member. Therein the arrangement is such that the end face of the light incident part is a plane inclining to the plane perpendicularly intersecting the optical axis of the light waveguide member or is in the form of a plane and convex or concave in the direction of the optical axis of the light waveguide member. |
