1,106,506. Measuring liquid level electrically. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. June 2, 1967 [June 21, 1966], No. 27684/66. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G3] The mass of through-flowing liquid 20 in a cylindrical tank 10 is measured by the capacitance between the upper surface of a coaxial cylindrical float 11 and a fixed external plate 12. This capacitance is in the anode circuit of a Miller-Pierce oscillator 15. When it exceeds a predetermined value oscillation ceases and an electromagnetic valve 16 cuts-off the supply of liquid to the tank until the mass in the tank is back to the required level. The mass is maintained constant as above to enable the sulphur content of the liquid to be determined by measuring the X-ray absorption, using a source 17 and detector 18.
|
