PURPOSE:To retrieve and display the fundamental side word concerned and the corresponding side word in the electronic dictionary device at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:A dictionary area 22 is divided into eight pieces of memory banks, and English words and German words are stored in the banks 1-4, and the banks 5-8, respectively. When an English word to be retrieved is subjected to key input and stored in a RAM 13, when a 'search' key 14A is operated, a CPU 11 executes a retrieval to the bank 4 in the order from the bank 1 of the dictionary area 22, reads out a word and a pointer of the word concerned, the word is expanded and displayed in a VRAM 15A of a display part 15, and the pointer is stored in the RAM 13. Thereafter, the next word is retrieved and displayed, and after the display is executed to a fourth line, the pointer is read out of the RAM 13, and a word of a German word corresponding to each English word is read out of the dictionary area 22 and displayed on the display part 15. |
