发明名称 OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE DEVICE
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the optical waveguide device which is low in dependence on temps. and dependence on wavelengths and with which a linear optical response is obtainable by providing electrodes for impressing the voltage for increasing and decreasing a release quantity on or near a waveguide. CONSTITUTION:The optical waveguide 5 is formed on a substrate 1 consisting of an electrooptical crystal, such as LiNbO3. The optical waveguide 5 is so formed that not only the light is confined but also the light of a specified quantity is previously released to the outside of the waveguide, like the conventional optical waveguides. The electrodes 6, 7 for impressing the voltage for increasing and decreasing the release quantity are provided on or near the waveguide 5 directly or via a buffer layer. Such waveguide with which the specified quantity of the light is released to the outside of the waveguide is formed in such a manner and the voltage to be impressed between the electrodes 6 and 7 is controlled, then, the release quantity of the light from the optical waveguide is increased or decreased, by which the output light quantity form the waveguide 5 is controlled and the optical waveguide device, such as optical modulator, is obtd.
