A 2-propanol compound represented by general formula (I), which is used as a preservative for colored images in heat-sensitive recording material and particularly improved in plasticizer resistance, wherein Y represents a group of general formula (II) or (III); R<1> represents hydrogen or alkyl; R<2> represents alkyl or alkoxy; R<3>, R<4>, R<5> and R<6> represent each alkyl or alkenyl; R<7> and R<8> represent each hydrogen, lower alkenyl or aralkyl; Z represents -SO2- or -CO-; ring A represents benzene or naphthalene; and n, m, p, q and r represent each an integer of 0 or above.
