To control both the power production and safety functions of a nuclear power plant, an operator is provided with a control panel 102 including at least one each of a display unit 116, 110 and a control module 118, 114 for each of the power production and safety functions. The safety and non-safety control modules 118, 114 act through first and second independent computer networks and the display units 116, 110 act through third and fourth independent networks. Thus redundancy is provided whilst control module signals do not need to pass through the display units. Each display unit 116, 110 and control module 118, 114 can comprise an interactive display with the data displayed on the control module display being that selected from the display unit 116, 110 by the operator. <IMAGE>
