The present invention relates to a high-density magnetic recording medium for a recording/playback device (such as those used in computer disk units) and, more especially, a magnetic recording medium including a plurality of magnetic recording layers such that the upper layer is thinner and has a denser structure than the lower magnetic recording layer. The present magnetic recording medium consists of a non-magnetic plated substrate (12), a layer forming the non-magnetic sub-layer (13) laminated to the plated substrate, a plurality of magnetic alloy layers embracing the upper layer (16) laminated to the layer forming a sub-layer, a non-magnetic overlay layer (17) laminated to the upper layer, and a lubricating layer (18) formed on the non-magnetic overlay layer. <IMAGE> |
