1535154 Reciprocating vapour engine plant R C STEWART 26 May 1977 22269/77 Headings F1M and F1Q A closed cycle vapour power plant includes a reciprocating engine having a cylindrical casing 14 surrounding radial cylinders 46 containing pistons 80 connected by rods 74 to common crank-pin 72 on output shaft K. The underside of each piston 80 is at all times subject via central aperture 20a in radial partition 20 to the pressure of the vapour entering the engine through conduit E. That pressure is also communicated during part of the cycle to the upperside of each piston 80 via a piston valve 90 operable by eccentric 82 on shaft K, so as to balance forces across the piston. At other times, however, the upperside is vented to outlet conduit F via axially slidable valve plate 96 operable by engagement of a hole 100 in the plate with a ramp 114 movable radially by eccentric 94 on shaft K, thus resulting in an unbalanced driving force across the piston 80. The working fluid may be carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide or other refrigerant. |
