摘要 (A) Cleaning of contaminated air by heterogeneous catalysis involves directly electrically heating an oxidn. catalyst-coated element to the requisite reaction temp. and employing pressure or suction to cause air flow past the element so that pollutants are oxidised to harmless gaseous reaction products on contact with the catalyst surface. An electric field is generated by applying a voltage of at least 10kV between the element, connected as an electrode, and a spaced further electrode, the electric field being perpendicular to the air flow direction and the element being held at zero potential. (B) Appts. for carrying out the above process is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - The process allows cleaning even of air with a low pollutant concn. of less than 100 (esp. less than 10) mg./cu.m., with good efficiency and low energy consumption.
