The sensor contains a device (3) for generating a magnetic field (5) and a conductor (4) whose relative position changes during buckling. Another device amplifies the electrical voltage induced in the conductor by the associated position change and contains an amplitude discriminator. The magnetic field is produced parallel to and inside an outer vehicle wall (1) by a device (3) mounted on the inner or outer wall skin. The conductor (4) is mounted on one of the skins (1,2) to undergo relative motion perpendicular to the field during buckling. USE/ADVANTAGE - The sensor arrangement does not perform direct or indirect time measurement, yet successfully uses the buckling speed as a triggering criterion.Eg for airbag or safety belt protection.
