Cam activated IC engine valve mechanism - uses of sprung disc as tappet contact area

The valve control mechanism is for an IC engine. It is actuated by a cam (2) on a camshaft (1) moving against the rounded contact surface of a tappet (7). The contact surface is formed by a covering disc (13) which on its underside has a number of wedge surfaces (12) which lie against suitably inclined wedge surfaces (11) on the upper side of a tappet floor (9), with springs (15) between the disc and the tappet floor. USE/ADVANTAGE - Valve control mechanism in IC engine which reliably balances out the effects of valve play.
