Civil engineering or similar works vehicle including a tool (6) associated with the towing vehicle, and in which the four wheels are driving wheels and are driven by a combustion engine (1) coupled to a mechanical gear box (2) making it possible to drive a set of wheels (3) which, itself, via a transmission shaft (4) controls the second set of wheels (5), the tool (6) being connected to the said towing vehicle via a coupling (7) mounted at the output from the gear box (2). It is characterised in that it also includes a constantly rotating variable-output hydraulic pump (8) making it possible to control a hydraulic motor (9), the output of which can be coupled and uncoupled with a gear mounted so that it can move on the transmission shaft (4) connecting the sets of wheels of the carrying vehicle. <IMAGE>
