An optical record carrier with a substrate (1) and a stack (3) is described. The stack comprises a reflection layer (4), an interference layer (5) and a recording layer (6). The incident radiation, indicated by the arrow, is first incident on the reflection layer before it is incident on the recording layer. Due to this structure of the stack a high contrast between the inscribed and uninscribed areas of the recording layer and/or a high reflection of the record carrier is obtained.
