PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhaust and seal a space between a face plate and a base plate. SOLUTION: This method of exhausting and sealing a display comprises a steps of providing a first plate and a second plate, of heating frits to form a plurality of surface roughnesses, of placing the second plate on the frits to define a space at least in part, of using a flow passage formed by the surface roughnesses for exhausting the space, and of heating the first plate and the second plate up to temperature higher than the temperature where the frit flows at least in part, while giving a force to the first plate and the second plate, to compress the frits at least in part.
