PURPOSE:To extremely effectively produce a carboxylic acid cyclohexyl ester as a precursor of cyclohexanol at low temperature in a short time and in high yield. CONSTITUTION:A carboxylic acid is reacted with cyclohexene in the presence of a hetero-polyacid consisting mainly of an oxide of tungsten represented by phosphotungstic acid or silicotungstic acid as a catalyst to produce a carboxylic acid cyclohexyl ester. In the reaction, an amount of water of crystallization which the hetero-polyacid consisting essentially of the oxide of tungsten possesses is adjusted to <=3.0 molecules per the hetero-polyacid to extremely improve the catalytic action.
