<p>A method for estimating and hierarchically coding image sequence motion by dividing a current image into macroblocks, dividing the macroblocks into four blocks, and so on, and by determining on each level a motion vector field related to the division, by means of an iterative, recursive estimation algorithm which is preset by the motion vectors estimated on the previous level, and then by determining a final motion vector field from the resulting p motion vector fields. Said motion vector field is determined by using the luminance differences between blocks which are matched in the successive images by the estimated movement vectors of the p division levels which relate to each minimum-sized block, and by pairing the minimum-sized block with the motion vector having the smallest luminance difference on said block. The method is particularly suitable for coding HD-MAC television pictures.</p> |
