Extermination of rodents - using rodenticide comprising bait treated with gypsum

Rodents are exterminated using rodenticide (A) comprising bait which is treated with gypsum. The rodenticide (A) is also claimed. Pref. (A) contain more gypsum than bait as well as pulverous flavorant, esp. powdered sugar, to mask the taste of the gypsum and colourant, esp. natural coloured chalk, for identification purposes. The bait is esp. natural vegetable bait, partic. flour, e.g. wheat, rye, barley or maize flour, or fish meal, which can also serve as the flavorant. In use against rats, at least 100 g, esp. 150-200 g of (A) is put down per rat and, should a second application be required, the bait or flavour is altered to counteract rejection by sensitive rats. (A) is put down in container having one-way entry-exit. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method provides guaranteed effective control of rodents with no environmental damage and no danger to humans or other animal species. Following ingestion, the gypsum absorbs water, gradually hardens and, by occluding the intestine, leads to death which occurs within 16-25 hrs. In an example, typical rodenticide (A) contains flour (400 wt.%) gypsum (450 wt.%, powdered sugar (30 wt.%) and ground coloured chalk (20 wt.%)
