Welding appts. for joining the ends of strips of thermoplastic material comprises a two-part working table with fixed and movable sections. A slot between the two tables allows a welding tool to move in and out. The welding tool is mounted on a holder and is connected to a heater. Vertical adjustment of the tool is possible parallel to the upper edge. Uneven welding due to a pivoting movement in an existing machine is countered by a cladding plate surrounding the appts.. The plate has ventilation holes near the base. Two adjustable clamping rails are positioned above the cladding plate. During upward movement of the welding tool the latter protrudes above the upper edge of the cladding plate. USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. connects adjoining ends of thermoplastic strips, gives a more uniform weld over the total weld width and at a uniform, desired temp.
