PURPOSE:To provide an image synthesis method which can synthesize images at short time. CONSTITUTION:The image synthesis method is to overlap the same parts in a first image which is image-picked up by an image pickup element 16 and is stored in a first frame memory 51 and a second image stored in a second frame memory 52 so that they are overlapped to be coincident and to synthesize them into the continuous image. A controller 53 pattern-matches small area image data in the small area part of a prescribed position in the same part of the first image and image data in respective small areas in the same part in the second image. The position of the small area part of the second image whose correlation coefficient of pattern matching becomes the largest is obtained and the position of the small area part is made to coincide with the prescribed position of the first image so as to synthesize the first image and the second image. |
