High purity hydrogen and carbon mon:oxide recovery from dry gas mixt. - by one stage partial condensation and purificn. giving high yield at reduced cost

Recovery of H2 and CO in high purity by sepn. of a dry crude H2/CO gas mixt. (I), free from CO2, is carried out by one-stage partial condensation and phase sepn. in a separator, in which (I) is cooled and (partly) condensed and a H2-rich gaseous fraction (II) and a liquid fraction are sepd. (III), then (II) is warmed, expanded in a turbine and thus chilled, warmed again and subjected to fine purifin. by pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and discharged as highly pure H2 prod. steam (IV). (III), which is rich in CO, is (partly) supplied to the top of a H2/CO sepn. column, the Co-rich sump fraction (V) from this column is partly vapourised and supplied to the middle zone of a CO/CH4 esp. column and the highly pure CO discharged from the top of this column is warmed and discharged as CO prod. steam (VI). ADVANTAGE - (IV) and (VI) are obtd. in higher yields and as good or better purity than usual, whilst capital costs and esp. operating costs are reduced.
