The rim (7) of the steering wheel is coupled by spokes (6) to the hub (4) within which notches (3) are in mesh with their counterparts (2) on the upper end of the steering column (1). A concertina sleeve (12) covers the range of axial adjustment of the hub (4) between a lower stop (8) comprising a ring pressed on to the column (1), and an upper stop constituted by a washer (9) under the nut (10).
