PURPOSE: To make it possible to produce a washout dye in a photographic sensitive material and to form an image improved in acutance by incorporating a specified compound. CONSTITUTION: The compound to be incorporated is represented by the formula: SOL-CAR-LINK-PUG in which SOL is a water-soluble group; CAR is a fraction to be allowed to release LINK-PUG by reaction with the oxidation product of a color developing agent and capable of producing the compound to be washed out of the photographic element during photographic processing; LINK- PUG is a fraction capable of successively releasing a photographic useful group PUG after being released; and LINK-PUG contains the compound represented by formula I, in which X is an atomic group necessary to complete an arylene or heterocyclic group; each of R1 and R2 is an H atom or an alkyl or aryl group or the like; R3 is a divalent bonding group to be allowed to form a 5, 6, or 7-membered ring by photographic processing; and PUG is a releasable a photographic useful group.
