Several cylinders are positioned at an angle to one another around a central drive shaft. Each cylinder has a piston (40) held by a spring so that its radially internal end is supported by a guide shoe (62) which fits on to the flat area (32) of a polygonal plate cam (28) mounted on an eccentric section of the drive shaft. The frictional forces (Q) generated are absorbed by the relevant piston (40) through a guide washer (74) fixed to the piston (40) which fits inside a collar (72) on the piston side of the shoe (62). USE - Friction-absorbing collar between piston and guide shoe holds the guide show in axial alignment with the piston.
