A colourant material (I), esp. for prodn. of signs or advertisements on PVC tarpaulins or other PVC-coated fabrics; contains a polyurethane (PU)-based plastic dispersion, dioctyl phthalate plasticiser (DOP), filler and water. (I) also contains pigments, and the plastic dispersion is based on polyvinyl acetate (PVAC) and/or polyvinyl ether (PVE) and/or PU and/or aliphatic polyester-PU with no free NCO gps. (PE-PU). Pref., (I) contains (a) 30-40% PVAC dispersion, 20-30% PVE dispersion, 15-25% chalk, 4-6% organic or inorganic pigment, 4-6% DOP and 4-6% water, or (b) 35-40% PU dispersion, 20-30% chalk, 6-10% pigment, 10-15% DOP and 4-6% water, or (c) 50-70% PE-PU, 25-35% chalk, 4-6% DOP, 4-6% pigment and 4-6% water. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is useful as a marking ink for tarpaulins, esp. lorry tarpaulins, for colouring these tarpaulins and/or for the prodn. of signs and advertisements by painting, spraying, roller-coating and/or dipping (claimed). Water-thinnable colouring material is completely biodegradable, environmentally neutral, non-toxic and non-flammable. The material dries in 15 mins. at room temp. to give a weather-resistant, water-resistant, abrasion resistant, UV-resistant, antistatic, flexible, dirt-resistant colour.
