<p>A probe for position determining apparatus and the like having within the probe a sensing space (60), a stylus (40) supported for position determining movement and extending into said space, means (30, 33) to emit into said space sensing radiation and means (30, 33) to collect said sensing radiation from said space, said stylus supporting within said space means (42) to deflect emitted said sensing radiation and movable with position determining movement of the stylus, said stylus being supported (43, 44, 50) for three-dimensional position determining movement, said deflection means concentrating said sensing radiation and said collection means (7, 8) being sensitive to variation of intensity distribution of collected deflected radiation with said three-dimensional movement of the stylus, the stylus being free of mechanical connection for said position determining.</p> |
