The head of a thermal printer is organised with multiple segments (Seg1-Seg4), each of which has a number of heating elements (R1-Rn). Each printing cycle involves the actuation of the segments and heating elements with control signals (STR1,2,3,4) generated by a unit (Z5). The segments each receive data blocks (DAT1-DAT4) which are acted upon when the control enable signals are received. The data is generate dby a memory module (AS) that has specific sections (SP1-SP4) relating to the print head segments. Data loading into memory is via a bus (1) coupled to the controller.
