753,316. Turbine and compressors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. April 21; 1954 [April 24, 1953], No. 11393/53. Classes 110(1) and 110(3) A radial flow turbine or compressor has an adjustable stator vane assembly comprising at least three circumferentially discontinuous and axially spaced annular wall members 11 with rings of vanes arranged therebetween to afford alternative gas passages of different configuration or dimension, the vane assembly being movable from outside the turbine casing for selecting any one of the rings of vanes for co-operation with the rotor. In the inward flow turbine of Fig. 1 a cast or fabricated unit having four walls 11 supporting rings 7, 8, 9 of nozzle vanes is adapted for axial movement under the control of a cam 12 and springs 17. Split rings, 18, 19 housed in grooves in the casing 23 make sealing contact with the walls 11. In Fig. 4 the vane unit has an annular extension 26 carrying an internal rack 27 engaged by a pinion 28. A spiral slot in the extension is engaged by a pin 33 in the casing 23. Specification 731.822 is referred to. |
