PURPOSE: To provide cigarettes of a flowless state in the wrapping line of a packaging machine. CONSTITUTION: There is provided a feed device 1 including divided channels 7 through which the cigarettes descend intermittently in stacks on their way to a wrapping line. The quality of the single cigarettes 2 is inspected by a sensor 15' connected to a chute 3. At this time, all the substandard products are ejected by a device interlocked to the sensor 15'. The loose cigarettes 2 are retained and aligned inside the channels 7 by an alternating mechanism. This alternating mechanism can adjust an axial position of the cigarettes 2 in relation to the sensor 15' and generate an axial supporting action applied periodically against a part of the stacked cigarettes descending just above the ejecting station 17. The timing of this action is defined in relation to an operating cycle of the ejecting device 18.
