Process for working-up special waste, in particular varnish and paint muds, coagulated varnish or varnish residues, which are dried in a dryer, novel in that the waste is put into a dryer allowing oxygen treatment. Various types of dryer are suitable for operating the process; e.g. contact dryers - screw, disk, or kneading paddle agitator. Convection - fluidised bed. Convection and contact radiant - preferably microwave. Contact dryers can be operated at 20-350 deg. C.; 75% of the contact drying surface should be self-cleaning. USE/ADVANTAGE - Drying of paint/varnish waste to remove solvents, etc. without excessively increasing the power consumption/overloading the dryer moving components (by high viscosity), and producing a flowable solid crumb product.
