PURPOSE:To enable light amplification for 1.3mum wavelength band. CONSTITUTION:Optical functional glass used for an optical fiber 30 contains Pr as a first active substance and at least one among Nd, Tm, Ho and Pm as a second rare earth element. The second rare earth element is excited by the presence of excited light. of 0.7-1.0mum wavelength from a laser light source 32 and the first active substance receiving energy transfer from the second rare earth element is also excited. The excited first active substance is guided by signal light and emits radiant light of 1.3mum band corresponding to transition from <1>G4 to <3>H4. When the excited light exceeds a prescribed intensity, the signal light is amplified. |
