PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a sintered compact at a relatively low temp. and to improve its toughness by mixing metallic oxide powder with zirconia powder not stabilized or not partially stabilized and executing sintering. CONSTITUTION:By weight, 3 to 20% metallic oxide powder having <=0.5mum average particle size and 97 to 80wt.% zirconia powder having <=0.5mum average particle size and >=1m<2>/g comparison area are subjected to wet mixing for >=10hr to obtain mixed powder. This mixed powder is dried and pelletized, is thereafter compacted into a desired shape, is heated and degreased to 300 to 600 deg.C at 3 to 20 deg.C/min temp. rising rate as necessary and then sintered at <=1600 deg.C to obtain a monoclinic zirconia sintered compact in which the average grain size of the crystalline particles is regulated to <=0.5mum. |
