The top tool is fitted with a head strip into a groove in the press head. It is supported against the lower side of the press head, and the two are clamped together via hydraulically loaded clamp elements. A spring-loaded catch bolt engages with a head profile in a complementary opening in the head strip of the top tool, and a retractable against the spring. The head strip of the top tool (4), and the retension groove of the press head (1), are mirror-symmetrical relative to the longitudinal centre plane of the top tool. A wedge action resulting from the head profile of the bolt (15) and the counter profile (20,21) of the opening (18,19), retains the top tool in the retention groove, positively and free from play.
