Coating and/or impregnating an electrically (non-)conducting, non-metallic porous material with an (in)organic binder comprises producing the binder with ionic and/or electropolar components and placing the impregnated and/or coated material in an electrical D.C. field produced by electrodes charged by D.C. and/or their electrochemical potential difference flowing through the electrodes in the materials. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is used to coat and/or impregnate natural and artificial stone, e.g. sandstone, concrete, fibrous cement, sprayed asbestos, and also cardboard, paper and fleece, using electroosmosis.
