The combined spinner/winder assembly, with a set of wp spindles for the winder and a transfer mechanism to lay the yarn at the winder, has a set of housings (15) for the spindles (12) and cover them in the winding position. Each housing has a yarn take-off opening (20). A fixed suction unit (21), in front of the yarn take-off openings at the housings, is selectively placed under underpressure, with its outlet (27) directed at the cross winder. A gripper tube (28), leading to the underpressure source, is selectively coupled to the outlet opening of the suction unit and swung against the winder assembly. ADVANTAGE - The assembly gives a yarn laying action at the winder which is rapid, simple and reliable in operation, to take yarn from cops.
