PURPOSE:To improve both flexural strength and fracture toughness and to obtain the title sintered material suitable as structural material, comprising ceria stabilized zirconia, alpha-alumina and lanthanum-based beta-alumina in a specific volume ratio. CONSTITUTION:(A) 60-92vol.% ceria stabilized zirconia containing cerium dioxide as a stabilizer and crystal of tetragonal system as a crystal phase, (B) 30-5vol.% alpha-alumina and (C) 10-3vol.% lanthanum-based beta-alumina are used to produce ceria stabilized zirconia/alpha-alumina/lanthanum-based beta-alumina compounded sintered material. The lanthanum-based beta-alumina is beta-alumina containing a lanthanum-based rare earth element oxide such as La2O3 or Nd2O3 and is the compound shown by the formula La2O3.11Al2O3 when lanthanum is used. The compounded sintered material can be provided with high fracture toughness by crack deflecting effects caused by pillar-shaped crystal of lanthanum-based beta-alumina. |
