1443788 High purity nickel LE NICKEL 26 Nov 1973 [1 Dec 1972] 54813/73 Addition to 1385263 Heading C1A A process as claimed in Specification 1,385,263, wherein the ion exchange resin containing impurities is washed with approximately decinormal hydrochloric acid, wherein the process further comprises concentrating the eluate obtained, contacting it with an organic phase in a first liquid-liquid extraction to yield an at least partly purified aqueous solution of nickel and cobalt chlorides, washing the organic phase, subjecting the organic phase to cobalt reextraction to produce an aqueous solution rich in cobalt, and again to iron re-extractuate, and then recycling the organic phase to said first liquid-liquid extraction. The organic phase is preferably a solution of a sulphonium chloride in a mixture of diisobutyl ketone and octyl alcohol. The cobalt re-extraction preferably comprises contacting the organic phase with #0À1 N-HCl in amount such as to extract Co but substantially no Fe; the Fe may then be extracted with #0À1 N-HCl using a higher aqueous to organic phase ratio.
|
