The invention relates to a mechanical and thermal surface protection intended for temporary or extended application on elements whose surface finish quality it is desired to preserve. It consists of a panel (1) provided with hook fasteners (2) and (3) connected to the said panel by straps (4) allowing adjustment or adaptation of the protection to the shapes of the element to be protected. An adhesive fastening (5) makes it possible to hold the protection in place when the dimensions or the shapes of the elements to be protected do not allow hook attachment. In the case of application on the bodywork of a motor vehicle during parking, the shape of the hooks (3) allows the protection to be made tamperproof once it has been fitted and the door has been closed. This protection according to the invention is intended for protecting the bodywork of a parked motor vehicle, but may find applications in industrial or domestic fields. <IMAGE>
