Process for the manufacture of Zircaloy 2 or 4 sheets or tubes in which a blank is roughed down, is quenched from beta and is converted by a succession of thermomechanical and/or mechanical and thermal treatments whose temperatures and durations are referred to by a duration factor: A = SIGMA ti exp(-40000/Ti) where ti and Ti are the treatment times (h) and the temperatures in degrees Kelvin of each of the successive treatments, this factor A being limited for a group of the said treatments, characterised in that A is limited only for the group of the said treatments preceding the final thermal treatment, and in that this last treatment is performed at the top of the alpha domain, at at least 720 DEG C and for less than 15 min above 720 DEG C. The invention applies to the manufacture of components for nuclear reactors, in particular of the BWR type.
