Production properties, e.g. rate of production of well fluid from a formation (1), are determined by propagating an acoustic signal down the well and measuring the travel times of a signal reflected from an identifiable reference point (3), and of a signal reflected from a fluid level in the drill stem, and thereby determining the production property.
