Analogue optical transmission system for television signal - divides electrical spectrum into several channels, converts to optical signals using respective transmitters and recombines using optical coupler

In the transmission system, an electrical h.f. television signal spectrum is converted into an optical signal by means of laser diodes, and transmitted to a receiver (32) via an optical cable (31). At the transmitter side, a frequency dividing network (11) divides an electrical h.f. spectrum into a number of television channels using respective band-pass filters (12-16). The filtered signals are fed to respective electro-optical transmitters (23-27), whose outputs are connected together by an optical coupler (30). The output from the coupler is fed to the receiver (32) via the optical cable (31). The band width of the band-pass filters is pref. no larger than an octave. ADVANTAGE - Requires only one optical fibre and one receiver for transmission of broad band TV signal.
