The circuit includes a memory (100) for storing insertion character data. A control section (110) reads and outputs insertion character data and character division data, and generates switching commands and switching driving signals. A switching time setting section (120) generates switching period control clocks by frequency-dividing the received clocks in accordance with the switching driving signals of the control section (110). A signal selecting section (130) receives all the control signals and data signals to combine them, and to control a video switch (SW) which selects the display color. With the circuit, the function of video camera is diversified.
