PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of a fan motor and reduce noise by a method wherein a plurality of louvers are movably arranged at a suction port of a casing in such a way that an opening area of the suction port is varied and an adjusting means cooperatively related to the louvers to move the louvers and adjusting an opening area of the suction port is provided. CONSTITUTION:As refrigerant is circulated in a heat exchanger 3 and a blower fan 4 is driven, indoor air is made to flow into an air passage 24 in a casing 2 through each of suction ports 21 and 22, heat exchanged at the heat exchanger 3 to become cold air or hot air. After this operation, the conditioned air is sent into a room through a blowing port 23 to cool or heat the indoor area. During this air conditioning operation, the blower fan 4 is driven at a specified number of revolution. In the event that an air volume is to be controlled, an angle of each of the louvers 5, 5... is adjusted by the adjusting means 6 and an opening area of the front suction port 21 is varied. Accordingly, it is possible to vary the air volume while an input of the blower fan 4 being kept constant and further it is possible to keep the consumption power of the blower fan 4 at a low value. In turn, in the event that the air volume is to be increased, the opening area of the front suction port 21 is increased and an aeration resistance is kept low to enable the air volume to be increased. |
