The sliding door has one or more panels which are suspended from carriages which are provided with rollers which run on a fixed rail (4). The door (1) is attached to the carriage by means of a beam (20) and adjusting screws (6). The beam (20) consists of an upper (25) and a lower (26) part which are fastened together by a clamping plate (35). This clamping plate is secured to the upper part of the beam by a bolt (40) and to the lower part of the beam by a rib (36) which engages a groove (37). The two parts of the beam (20) are also fastened to each other at one end by a vertical bolt. In an emergency the clamping plate (35) can be removed and the door (1) can be opened from outside by swinging it together with the lower part (26) about this bolt relative to the upper part of the beam.
