A surge suppressor (10) made by potting surge suppressing circuitry in epoxy resin (130), curing the resin and the chilling the cured resin to a temperature at least zero degrees Fahrenheit, or preferably, at least minus forty degrees Fahrenheit and then warming to room temperature. Also, it is preferable to place a layer of small river rocks (126) on the surge suppressing circuitry and then encapsulating the circuitry and rocks with the resin. The chilling step, which is preferably done by ramping the temperature of the suppressor from room temperature to the chilling temperature over the course of two hours, allowing the suppressor to remain at the chilling temperature for approximately an hour or until the suppressor reaches equilibrium, then ramping up the temperature over another two hour period, enhances the clipping ability of the suppressor, especially in combination with the use of river rock.
|
