<p>A class of devices, named picture elements, or pixels, for the production of two-dimensional (planar) and three-dimensional (spatial) visual images for both picturing and sculpturing and methods by which such visual images can be constructed from said picture elements. The design of the picture elements simultaneously facilitates the construction of the two necessary elements of every visual image, the image itself and its supporting medium. Being substantially flat, the picture elements are shaped to provide for a solid and stable support medium in the form of a single, flat, double-surfaced opaque or transparent sheet or a three-dimensional structure made of one or more of such sheets. The design of the pixels further facilitates well defined color contours or the blending of colors along their contours. In the case of the opaque sheet or sheets having two surfaces with different coloring schemes thereon, the picture elements are designed to facilitate the simultaneous creation of two images, one on each surface of the constructed sheet. Some rules are provided for generating new designs of such picture elements.</p> |
