<p>PURPOSE:To increase the aperture ratio of picture elements and improve display characteristics even when charge holding capacity is increased or even when the picture elements are made high in definition by forming a lower electrode between an insulating substrate and a picture element electrode. CONSTITUTION:The device has the transparent lower electrode 17 formed on the transparent insulating substrate 8, a transparent charge holding capacity insulating film 18 provided on the insulating substrate 8, and the picture element electrode 14 formed of a transparent conductive film on the charge holding capacity insulating film 18 and the charge holding capacity 7 is composed of the lower electrode 17, part of the picture element electrode 14 which overlap with the lower electrode 17, and the charge holding insulating film 18 interposed between them. In this case, the lower electrode 17 of the charge holding capacity 7 is transparent, so a display is not impeded by the part in operation and the whole picture element electrode 14 including the formation part of the charge holding capacity 7 operates effectively for the display. Consequently, even when the charge holding capacity is increased or when the picture element pitch is decreased, the aperture ratio of the picture element can be made large and the display characteristics are improved.</p> |
