PURPOSE:To obtain a light clutch facing having excellent durability with smooth clutch-in by manufacturing the clutch facing with a special carbon fiber reinforced carbon sintered body. CONSTITUTION:A clutch facing is composed of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon sintered body having the structure in which carbon fiber or carbon fiber and inorganic fine bodies are integratedly embedded in a carbon matrix and the carbon matrix has mosaic structure in which optically anisotropic fine particles are uniformly and closely gathered as seen with a polarization microscope, and in which the proportion of a separtated interface in an interface between the carbon fiber and the carbon matrix is 10% or less to the total interface, and is composed of carbon fiber reinforced carbon sintered body having density of 1065 or more. The carbon fiber, composing the carbon fiber reinforced carbon sintered body, ensures the strength of the sintered body, and can be one showing either anisotropy or isotropy and being either a cut short fiber or a long fiber. Also the carbon fiber can be one-oriented wither in a fixed direction or at random reversely in the matrix. |
